VB Tutorial: Foiling VB Digitals at Home

Hi friends!

It’s Amanda from MyLifeStuckOnPaper! This is my very first blog post on the VB Design Team and I cannot be more excited! I am going to share with you how I foil at home…with my laminator! Yes, my laminator!

 First things first...materials!

What you will need:

Laser Printer - this project will not work with an inkjet printer
Fiskars Paper Trimmer
Foil (I am using Heidi Swapp Minc)
Cardstock
Laminator
Computer paper - any computer paper will do

Step 1: Open up any program that allows you to be creative and design your own dashboards. My two favorites are PowerPoint and Canva. For this tutorial, I am using PowerPoint. Make sure to resize the document by clicking on “slide size” and “custom” to adjust it to 8.5 x 11".
Step 2: Make the “cut lines” by inserting a shape and resizing it to the desired size. I sized mine to A5 (5.8in x 8.3in). Then, change the outline color to light gray so you know exactly where to cut when it’s printed.
Step 3: Time to design! I added clipart from the July Fashionista VBKit  and typed a quote! I love how it turned out.
Step 4: Export your design and get ready to print!
When you print your design, make sure the paper matches the settings on your printer and computer to ensure the highest quality.
Step 5: After you have finished printing, use your paper trimmer to cut on the gray lines to match the desired size. Then cut the foil to fit the parts you want foiled. You cannot reuse foil, so cut it as small as possible, but big enough to cover the designs.
Step 6: Take a piece of computer paper and fold it hamburger style. Now, place the cut foil over the designs (foil facing up) and slide it in the folded paper. The folded piece of paper will act as a protective layer when you run it through the laminator.
Step 7: Time to foil! Insert the paper into the laminator, folded side first. I run it through twice with the protective layer over it.
Step 8: Run it through the laminator one final time, but without the protective sleeve.
Step 9: Peel off the foil to reveal your final creation. Hole punch it and add it to your planner!
Step 10: Admire your beautiful dashboard and show it off on Instagram!
